Testing Testing 1, 2, 3

Prototypes are key!

Been testing a few new approaches to make plain cylindrical plant pots more interesting. Here are process photos to one of my new favorites.

Thoughts:

  • The watercolor effect is a superb way to use old underglaze colors, but the palette should be better refined. I also would like to try more free-form splotches of color, which is difficult to do on a cylindrical object.
  • The free-form curves defining the three sections need to be smoother. Perhaps a french curve + tracing paper next time.
  • LOVE the new approach to the drainage dish. The bottom of the main planter includes a groove for the drainage dish to nestle into. This feels much more secure than previous designs.

Carving lower section – tight fluting
Carving upper section – tight fluting

Looking forward to seeing how it turns out in glazing.
